Policies and Procedures
If a student does not meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) criteria listed above in the catalog, they will be placed on probation (the duration is specified above in the SAP). Any student who must repeat courses will be required to pay $35.00 per course. At the end of the probationary period, if the student has not met the specified requirements, they may be dismissed from the university. Students who meet this requirement at the end of the probationary period will be removed from probation.
Students are eligible to apply for readmission after a minimum of one term, and, if permitted to return, will be on academic probation. If at any time after being suspended, a student on probation has a cumulative GPA below the required minimum, they will be dismissed from the university and ineligible for readmission. Any appeal for failure to maintain satisfactory progress must be submitted in writing to the Head of Academic Affairs within 15 days of notification of dismissal. The student will be notified in writing of the decision. The maximum time granted to a student to complete their program is 1.5 times the normal duration of that program. A student who fails to meet these criteria will be terminated for failure to make satisfactory progress.
Any appeal of the actions described above must be submitted in writing to the Head of Academic Affairs, who will consider the appeal. The Head of Academic Affairs will have the final authority to decide whether to accept the student’s appeal within 5 days. For the student’s appeal to be granted, they must provide evidence of satisfactory academic progress.
At World Advanced University, appropriate student conduct in every class and when communicating with others on campus is very important. Any inappropriate conduct could result in expulsion from the university. The following types of conduct are unacceptable:
- All forms of academic misconduct, including but not limited to cheating, fabrication, plagiarism, or facilitating academic dishonesty. Plagiarism: All work submitted by a student must represent the student’s original effort. When using external sources as references, the student must identify the source to clearly indicate the extent to which it has been used. The university considers plagiarism and falsification of documents a serious matter that will result in appropriate sanctions, including the loss of full or partial credit for the work, suspension for a specified period, or expulsion from the program.
- Other forms of dishonesty, including but not limited to fabricating information, providing false information, or reporting a false emergency to the university.
- Forgery, alteration, or misuse of any university document, record, key, electronic device, or identification.
- Unauthorized entry, possession, receipt, or use of any university service, equipment, resource, or property, including the university’s name, insignia, or seal.
- Sexual harassment, defined herein as: Sexual harassment includes unwanted sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical behavior of a sexual nature, when submission to or refusal of such behavior explicitly or implicitly affects an individual’s education, unreasonably interferes with an individual’s educational performance, or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive learning environment. In the interest of preventing sexual harassment, the university will respond to reports of any such conduct.
- Harassing behavior in which an individual repeatedly engages in conduct directed at another person and makes a credible threat with the intent to cause reasonable fear for that person’s safety or the safety of their family; where the threat is reasonably determined by the university to seriously alarm or distress the individual; and where the threat is further determined by the university to serve no legitimate purpose.
- Obstruction or disruption of teaching, research, administration, disciplinary proceedings, or other university activities.
- Failure to identify or comply with the instructions of a university official or other public official acting in the performance of their duties during official university functions; or resisting or hindering such university officials or other public officials in the performance of their duties or attempts to perform their duties.
- Sale, preparation, or distribution for any commercial purpose of course notes, video recordings, or audio recordings of any course unless authorized by the university in advance and explicitly permitted in writing by the course instructor. The unauthorized sale or commercial distribution of course notes or recordings by a student is a violation of these policies, whether the notes or recordings were prepared by the student or someone else. Copying—for any commercial purpose—handouts, readers, or other course materials provided by an instructor as part of the university coursework unless authorized by the university in advance and explicitly permitted in writing by the course instructor or the copyright holder.
