Program Description

The Master of Social Sciences prepares students to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to work with senior adults and improve their quality of life. Students will gain knowledge about the health and well-being of older people, health care, occupational therapy, community work, and the psychology of aging.

Through a combination of theoretical courses, internships, and applied research work, students will develop the skills needed to work with older people and improve their quality of life. Issues related to the role of the social worker in caring for the elderly, identifying needs, and promoting resources for care will be addressed. Topics such as ethics in community work with the elderly, effective communication with older people and their families, and planning care services will also be discussed.

The curriculum is logically organized, starting with general courses that lay the foundation for social science understanding and research, and then focusing on specializations in older adults, community work, and therapy environments.

Students can choose between our major tracks.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS PROGRAM WILL NOT LEAD OR QUALIFY STUDENTS TO LICENSURE UPON GRADUATION. IN ADDITION, THE TRANSFER OR ACCEPTABILITY OF CREDITS OR DEGREE IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE ACCEPTING INSTITUTION.
